Surveillance Case Studies

Physical and technical surveillance often works hand in glove with our asset tracing investigations. Once desktop research has gathered information, we may then deploy physical and/or technical surveillance to help confirm or deny wrongdoing to support our findings.

Case #1

Task

A local government client was suspicious that they were being defrauded by employees who were responsible for the collection of large amounts of money on a daily basis.

Result

After a successful initial period of technical surveillance, physical surveillance was then authorised over a period of 6 weeks to collate evidence that theft was taking place. Our surveillance teams worked hard to gather the evidence identifying that almost £2 000 000 pounds had been stolen over a protracted period of time.

Case #2

Task

A local building company was concerned that a team of their employees were misusing company time and materials leading to projects running overtime and over budget.

Result

A physical surveillance team were deployed to assess the working practices of the building team and discovered that not only were they not working the hours that they should be (lost productivity) they were working on their own projects during employed hours (gross misconduct) and using materials ordered by the company for company projects but on their own, private, building jobs and using company vehicles and equipment to carry out the jobs.

Case #3

Task

A local government housing association was concerned that some of their employees were not performing their duty appropriately, suspecting fraud and theft.

Result

Technical and physical surveillance identified that some employees were guilty of theft and fraud. As a result of our investigation the housing authority was able to dismiss several of their employees and put in place better working practices to ensure that this would be less likely to happen than before. This task also helped identify good employees, carrying out excellent work and going above and beyond their role for the company

Case #4

Task

A transport company was concerned that an employee who was on the sick after an accident at work was working another job during his period of convalescence whilst his claim was assessed

Result

Evidence was gained that showed the employee was in fact working while on the sick – he was carrying out similar duties to that which he said he was unable to do due to the accident that occurred while at work. Our evidence allowed the transport company to reduce their liability on the claim (stated limitations) and dismiss the employee for gross misconduct.
